MANAAKI - Support
Our goal is to support and grow a thriving Maori Technology Sector
Building a Maori values-based evaluation system into the development of the sector will ensure not only robust quantitative measurement of growth (e.g. assets, revenue, employment, products, and services) but also meaningful qualitative measurement of genuine change and transformation for Maori across Aotearoa.
Strategic economic principles of the sector and Planet Maori include activities that we: (1) Must Do (To Generate Cash), (2) Can Do (To Generate Growth), and (3) Want to Do (To Generate New Opportunities). Having a deeper understanding of both local and global situations and trends will ensure that the all stakeholders are engaged within a sector that is continually learning, able to develop appropriate systems, programmes and processes to drive improvement.
Measures and Indicators will include:
Value / Amount of Annual Revenue of Maori in Technology
Value of Exports (Goods and Services) of Maori Tech Firms / Organisations
Value of Angel and Venture Capital Investment
Number of Maori working in the Tech Sector
Number of Maori-owned and led Technology and Data Centres
Number of Maori Researchers / R & D
Number of Maori Students / Training Interns
Number of Maori Tech Sector (including AI) Firms / Organisations
Number of Maori-led Tech Industry Workshops / Conferences / Seminars
Number of Products and Services produced and provided by Maori-owned Tech Firms
Value of Assets of Maori-owned Tech Firms / Organisations
Supporting Technological and Data Sovereignty to
increase Maori wealth and improve their socio-cultural and economic wellbeing
To enable the sustainable development of the Maori Technology and New Innovation Sector, significant investment from
the government is required. A whole of government response is necessary in order to achieve positive outcomes for Maori,
and improve their wealth, health, and wellbeing. Several budgets need to incorporate this critical funding support.
