CHACO CANYON 2007
'Is it possible to have Information Technology that reflects Indigenous Consciousness'? A Learning Encampment, convened by the Native Science Academy, funded by the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering of the National Science Foundation USA.
Chaco Canyon, a World Heritage Site as a major centre of Puebloanculture between 850-1250AD. Chaco technologies incorporated precision design and planning - aligned with the celestial bodies. They had complex infrastructure (construction, irrigation, agriculture); monumental structures and advanced building techniques. They had a complex, integrated society with central government, administration, and civic projects. Chaco Canyon was an incredible place of learning.
Here is a link to the paper developed from that learning encampment.

HAKAMANA BILINGUAL KEYBOARD PROJECT 2001
Creating Innovative and Expressive Technologies to Preserve Indigenous Languages
A computer keyboard enabling easy communication in Te Reo Māori was initially conceptualized by founder Tania Wolfgramm in August 2001. After undertaking some initial research, she and the talented Ki Te Reo team, including Rahuia Kapa, Udhay Kadiyala, Rachel Wolfgramm, and Wikuki Kingi commenced the design and development of the Māori Keyboard. The HAKAMANA comprised specialist software and designer key-top labels, offering all of the letters in the Māori alphabet (including the macronised vowels, ā ē ī ō ū) and particular Māori letter combinations (e.g., ng, wh) in a layout developed in line with the way the Māori language is taught and learned. The keyboard layout was interfaced with a custom-designed software kit (downloadable into PCs with MS Windows operating systems). This software operated between the keyboard driver and the windows operating system of the user’s computer. The software converted the data that was captured from the keyboard hardware and displayed it in the desired language format. The programme also allows for an easy swtch between English (using the QWERTY keyboard) and Māori keyboard layouts. It also included a Māori dictionary, spell check facilities, and a Te Reo Māori learning component.
